Another batch of medical students witnessed a gentle birth with me assisting the Somalian mother in the labour ward today at Mowbray Maternity Hospital. When the baby was born we all burst into tears-of happiness and relief I think. It was the first birth ever that the students had observed. The mother had had a female circumcision and clitoridectomy and so she had alot of anxiety about tearing at the birth. The perineum was intact thankfully and the mother was so grateful. A healthy 3,5kg baby boy!
Wow , how great to have such an empowering experience after being mutilated ! Glad she met you and could heal a bit of trauma this way !Wonderful for the students to witness this ,too 🙂 !
That is so amazing! I’m glad that she was able to have you there to make it a peaceful experience!
