The Cape Town Midwifery and Birth Conference this year has a full, rich and varied programme and is set to shake the midwifery and birthing world in South Africa by its roots and branches, encouraging real transparency and discussion of women’s issues around midwifery and birth. What does it mean, to be a midwife? How flexible should a midwife be to support women’s birthing rights? How safe is it to give birth after multiple caesarians? Where should a woman give birth and what are her rights and options? Why is waterbirth so attractive to so many women and how can we encourage hospitals to expand their facilities to include waterbirth? These are some of the questions that will be discussed as a passionate group of women gather together next weekend to share, support and collaborate on ways to improve the culture of birth in South Africa for all women in the future.
The organizers of the Midwifery and birth Conference are committed to created a forum for positive change within the birth culture of South Africa in the following ways:
- Women need a place to share their experiences and knowledge around
pregnancy and birth - Women need to be informed of their rights in pregnancy and birth care
- Women deserve compassionate respectful care during pregnancy and birth
- Midwives need to collaborate and support each other
A new wave of consciousness in Birth and Midwifery is beginning as we embark on this journey together. Please join us.
